With their 6-4 win today against the Twins, the Yankees swept the season series (7-0) for the third time this decade. All star first basemen
Mark Teixeira ended a 23-game homerless streak, when he connected on the first pitch of the fifth inning.
Mariano Rivera pitched a scoreless ninth for his 23rd save of the season.
Making his first start of the season,
Alfredo Aceves looked like he should have remained in the bullpen. Ace didn't make it out of the fourth inning, and allowed three earned runs on 65 pitches. Credit the Yankee bullpen of Albaladejo, Coke, Hughes, and Rivera to shut down the Twinkies.
Francisco Liriano (5-9) took the loss for Minnesota. The lefty allowed six runs in just 5 1/3 innings. C Joe Mauer went 2 for 5 to raise his major league leading average to a robust .389.
Every one in the Yankee lineup sans Nick Swisher had a hit today, as the Yankees improved their record to 51-34. New York now sits just 1/2 game behind Boston in the AL East.
