Reyes, Delgado making progress

Before a pitch was even throw today at Citi Field, the Mets received positive news on the injury front. That's cause Jose Reyes and Carlos Delgado had encouraging workouts before the game at Citi Field.

Reyes did some agility drills in the outfield under the watch of Manuel. Jose has been out since May 20 with an injured right leg. There is still no timetable for his return, even though this is great news after Reyes needed a cortisone shot in his leg on Tuesday.

Delgado took live swings in the cage against a pitcher for the first time since having hip surgery on May 19. He is still not expected back until mid-August, and he is handling the situation cautiously since he does not want to re-injure his hip and go back on the DL.

Jerry Manuel was beaming when discussing the workouts with reporters, and the news could not have come at a better time for a team that limped into the All-Star break.

If the Mets can just tread water and stay within striking distance of the Phillies while everyone is hurt, they can make a serious run when they get healthy. Reyes would add a totally different dimension when he comes back with his speed and energy, and Delgado's bat would give the Mets the pop they have lacked this season since he went down.
